Os X Sierra Generating Content To Print 2017

I'm stumped on this one... I've been using MacOS X since the Public Beta came out in 2000, and I've never run into anything like this when working with PDF files.

My Natural Gas provider - Atmos Energy - allows me to download PDF copies of old statements from their website. The PDF downloads as expected, opens in Preview without any issues, and displays the statement perfectly.

  • We are also providing Clang 4.0.0 binaries for OS X 10.11 and higher in our libs directory (note that the offical Clang 4.0.0 binaries only support macOS 10.12) and will provide an Apple Installer package here soon.
  • I too have suffered from this issue for over a year, I've tried every release of Fusion upto 8.5.8 and still the problem persisted. Amongst the comments in this thread a reference to Fusion 5 - Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory. Was made, this proved invaluable as it hinted at the possible issue, ' It seems that some driver on your system is triggering the problem.

My build environment is currently Xcode, using SDK 10.11, targeting OS X 10.11. Keep in mind the Info.plist is generated by generateInfoplist.sh. Do not edit the Info.plist directly. USBInectAlltemplate-Info.plist serves as the starter Info.plist, with each model injected using USBInjectAllmodeltemplate.plist. MacOS Big Sur elevates the most advanced desktop operating system in the world to a new level of power and beauty. Experience Mac to the fullest with a refined new design. Enjoy the biggest Safari update ever. Discover new features for Maps and Messages. And get even more transparency around your privacy. I actually tried to run Fusion on another mac (same OS/software versions) and the result is the same. So, at least I know it's not just this one machine. For what's worth, the OS information is macOS 10.13 (17A365) and the Fusion is Version 10.0.0 (6665085).

Then I print the PDF to my Lexmark X546dtn color laser. It prints out, but all of the account-specific text has been replaced with garbled ASCII characters. The overall structure of the statement prints correctly (lines, shapes, logos, etc) as does the generic text that they include as information for every customer (i.e. Call us immediately if you smell gas). But everything else is complete garbage.

A couple of examples... (Visible on Screen -> What's Printed Instead):

PREVIOUS BALANCE -> KQSSQGT)QG<RP:N*QRGI

05/10/13 -> 3<C=3C=D

PAST DUE AFTER -> MN3*)LO!)N<*!P

When I Select All (text) in the PDF in Preview, it copies / pastes the correct strings into a text editor. When I choose 'Export to PDF' the file it creates, however, has the same garbled text that shows up when I print it on my Lexmark.

I've submitted a support request to Atmos, but don't have very high expectations that they'll be able to offer any help. I'm really not sure what's going on here, any ideas?

In case it helps, the 'PDF Producer' is listed as 'StreamServe Communication Server 5.5.0 GA Build 1684'.

Thanks!

I see this has been a long-standing problem on earlier versions of Mac OS and Apple Mail. It just happened to me, and I thought I'd share what worked running Mail 11.3 on macOS High Sierra (10.13.4) on a 2017 iMac. I was trying to print some emails from GoDaddy, and kept getting stuck on the 'Generating content to print' dialog. This seemed to be specific to mail from GoDaddy; I didn't have any trouble printing messages from other senders.

Following some advice I found in an old post, I went into Mail preferences, and on the Viewing tab, unchecked 'Load remote content in messages.' After that, printing for messages from this sender Just Worked again. One of the old posts suggested that this was because of hidden pixels embedded in the email, which some senders use and most (in my experience) don't. Seems reasonable, I suppose.
